When you come to a photo session have you ever considered using props.  Props can add some styling to any session.  It can show your personality.  It can emphasize a point you want to make.  Have you ever wondered what props would be appropriate for a photo session.  Well, let me give you some ideas.

Senior Portrait Sessions

If you are into sport or play any kind of sports bring:

• Equipment: football, baseball, volleyball, softball, lacrosse ball, soccer ball, tennis ball, racket, baseball bat, baseball helmet, football helmet, softball bat, lacrosse sticks, pompoms, band color guard flags or rifles, gold clubs, golf ball, tee
• Uniform

If you are into music bring your instrument.

If you like to read brin a few of your favorite books.

If you are into fashion bring accessories

• a hat
• a jacket- jean jacket, leatherman jacket, leather jacket
• boots
• umbrella
• jewelry

If you are a car person, let's do pictures with your car.

You can also use props such as couches, chairs, bundles of flowers, chalkboards, letter boards, and more. 

Engagement Sessions

For your engagement session, make sure you bring your engagement ring to use for your photos. A board with the date of your wedding for your save the date card would be cute. Using flowers and even a vehicle for your prop could be cool.

Maternity Sessions

For your maternity session bringing props can bring emotions and joy.  For example:

• ultrasound pictures
• onesie 
• a pair of baby shoes
• something with baby's name on it
• a book for mom or dad to read to baby

Family Session

Props even in a family session can be useful especially for children.  Rocking chairs, stuffed animals, blanket, crate, stools, chairs, etc.  I once had a family bring a small stuffed animal that they put in every photo to represent a child they had lost. They didn't tell me at first what it represented, but once I found out I made sure that stuffed animal was visible in every single pictures, so that child was represented in every single picture.  Little things like this could mean so much with in a photo.

Milestone Photography

Milestone photography special moments in someone's life like birthday's.  Props for a one year old session is so cute. Sometimes less is more.  For instance, 

• a rocking chair
• a number balloon
• a number 
• the number spelled out
• a cake 
• a crate
• a blanket
• a swing
• a stuffed animal

You don't have to go all out. Sometimes one prop can make all the difference.
